Welcome back to the blog Electro Swing fans.
We're finishing off the first month of the year with eight new songs, and first up is Mr Jazzek with, "Oriental Swing" featuring Lil Hardin Armstrong at number 39. Mr Jazzek reached number 7 at the beginning of the Summer, last year, with "Doin The Jive," featuring Glenn Miller. As for Lil Hardin Armstrong, she was featured on the Number 1 song, "Harlem Nights" by Honky Crew which spent two weeks on top last month. "Harlem Nights" drops out of the Top 40 this week.
Ariana Savalas makes her first appearance in almost four years as, "Legendary Lover" comes in at 35. She last appeared with Postmodern Jukebox back in the Spring of 2016 on the track, "All About The Bass," which peaked at 22.
And speaking of Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ), they arrive with the Blondie remake, "Call Me," at number 32, featuring Tess Mohr. And PMJ also debut in the Top 10, at 10, with, "Mr Blue Sky" featuring newcomer, Allison Young.
Legomix and Thomas Alva Edison come in with, "GramiPhone" at number 30. Legomix last visited in February of 2019, with the number 4 peaking, "Swing Artist (Extended Electro House Edit)."
Lyre Le Temps bring a third hit from their My Generation album to the Top 40. Title track, "My Generation," comes in at 29. Lyre Le Temps hit number 1 last week with, "Boogie Wonderland."
Antoine Viloutreix comes in strong with his second Top 40. "Wie Wunderschon (Wolfgang Lohr Remix)," arrives at 25. Antoine reached number 13 exactly a year ago on the Bart&Baker track, "Ami (Je Suis Heureux Que Tu Existes)(AK Radio Mix)."
Top Swinging Entry goes to Lamuzgueule and Chanson D'Occasion. They arrive at number 9 with the Rihanna remake, "Umbrella." It's the second version of "Umbrella" to make it onto the iSwing Top 40. Back in the Spring of 2018, Annella, took "Umbrella" all the way to number 1.
Lamuzgueule last appeared in the Top 10 back in October of 2018 with the number 5 peaking, "Gangster's Paradise (Wolfgang Lohr Remix)."
Big Swinging Shout-Out goes to the upcoming film, Miss Fisher & The Crypt Of Tears. If you're a fan of murder, adventure and mysteries you're in for a real treat with this upcoming film. Based on the popular books, by Kerry Greenwood, and television show, Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, comes a feature length film due this February. Phryne Fisher and Detective Inspector, Jack Robinson unite on a harrowing adventure through exotic locations, daring rescues, suspicious characters, an ancient curse and of course, steamy romantic interludes.
If the film is anything like the television show, expect gorgeous flowing fashions, jewels, magnificent sets and sharp period music sprinkled throughout. A first class adventure film that delivers and sets the tone for a grand entrance into the Roaring 2020's.

And back in the Top 10, SwingHoppers and Wolfgang Lohr move from 13 to 8 with, "Party Like It's 1920." For The SwingHoppers, it's their first appearance in the Top 10, and Wolfgang's 39th.
Lucy Woodward scores her first Top 10 with, "It's Oh So Quiet." And Pisk jumps twelve spots to stop at 6, for his tenth Top 10, "Hummin' To Myself."
Postmodern Jukebox moves to 5 with, "Juice," featuring Mario Jose.
Wolfgang's (38th) Top 10, "Twenties," is climbing fast, it's at 5 in its second week, and features the swingalicous, Loredana Grimaudo.
Emma Clair's, "Need To Swing," revs it up closer to the top at 3.
Lyre Le Temps slip to 2, with the very charming remake of Earth, Wind & Fire's hit song, "Boogie Wonderland."
And The Brass Department, Marena Whitcher and Rootwords, top the iSwing Top 40 this week with their first hit, "Welcome To The Brass Department (Klischee Remix)"
Klischee, however, score their second Number 1. Their last visit to the top, was way back in April of 2017, when, "Swing It Like Roger," actually debuted at Number 1. A rare feat indeed. "Swing It Like Roger," has become an Electro Swing classic.
Browse again next week to find out if "Brass Department," hangs on to Number 1, or will the battle be between Emma or Loredana? I know I'm excited to find out.
Until then, keep your head in the clouds and keep swinging for the stars.

Best Of iSwing - 2019

Electro Swing is a fast growing and glorious genre of music. It's overflowing with colourful characters and music that keep feet and ears unapologetically happy. As the music industry gathers this weekend for its biggest awards night, the iSwing blog also honours its best of the year.
Leading the nominations in 11 of the iSwing categories for 2019 is Caravan Palace with five, followed by SpekrFreks and Uki Mizusaki with four each. So continue reading to find out about your favourites from 2019.

And the category is...

Best New Electro Swing Artist

OB3One
Stefano Mastronardi
Uki Mizusaki
SpekrFreks
Young Punx

Each of the artists in this category really srepped up their game this year with fantastic albums. Of the five nominees, SpekrFreks take the prize. Established out of San Francisco in 2010, SpekrFreks made a huge impact on the chart in 2019. Releasing their album, Sockdollager, in the early part of 2019, it produced the Number 1 song, "Move On," and the momentum just didn't stop. Four Top 40 appearances, including a banger of a remix for Damon Rush really kept underground speakeasy's hoppin'.

Best Electro Swing Artist (Ladies)

Annella
Emma Clair
Little Violet
Alanna Lyes
Uki Mizusaki

The ladies of Electro Swing add such glamour and foot pounding fun to the genre. Annella takes the prize with this one. Establishing her reign early in the year. Her, "Love Music," kept the Winter Blues away and she owned the entire Spring season with the Number 1 smash, "Trouble."

Best Electro Swing Artist (Gentlemen)

DJ Mibor
Varrick Frost
Wolfgang Lohr
Offbeat
Odd Chap

Gentlemen don't usually stand a chance of winning if nominated with Wolfgang Lohr in this category. And the same is true this year. Wolfgang Lohr is the clear winner here. He's so darn prolific. He has nearly fourty Top 10's to his credit. Plus side projects, like Club 27, always keep the man very relevant.

Best Electro Swing Artist (Duo/Group)

Balduin
Bart&Baker
Caravan Palace
Lyre Le Temps
Swingrowers

Always an interesting category that could go in any direction, but Caravan Palace nail the win. They took a big chance taking their established sound, and flipped it on its head. Can't wait to see how they're going to mould the 2020's music scene.

Best Electro Swing Remix

Bart&Baker/Haylen - It's In Her Heels (Wolfgang Lohr Remix)
Robert Edwards/Little Violet - Charleston Boogie (Seolo Remix)
Ginkgoa - Don't Give A Damn (Varrick Frost Remix)
Jojo Effect/Dennis LeGree - Swing It Up (Zouzoulectric Remix)
Swing'It Dixieband - Party Like It's 1923 (DJ QuestionMark Remix)

Ginkgoa's, "Don't Give A Damn (Varrick Frost Remix)," is what the envelope reads. It's hard to keep your feet from moving when this jam comes on. And who doesn't give a damn when sweating it out on a dance floor. The perfect addition to your Roaring 2020's soundtrack.

Best Electro Swing Video

Caravan Palace - Miracle
Uki Mizusaki - Land Jump
Satin Dollz - That Man
Swing Bot - Shake Like It's Coming On
Swingrowers - Dreamland (Say Goodbye Bye Bye)
Parov Stelar - Gringo

And the winner is Parov Stelar's, "Gringo." A hypnotising video of hundreds of handpainted pictures edited brilliantly to a pretty friggin' catchy song.

Best Electro Swing Performance (Ladies)

Annella - Love Music
Emma Clair - Time To Fly
Beverly Knight - Marvelous Party
Little Violet - Swinging Melodies
Uki Mizusaki - Land Jump

The clear winner. Emma Clair. Emma's smooth Swing House production on "Time To Fly" marked Emma as a major player in the Electro Swing scene. Old school House DJ's, this ones for you too.

Best Electro Swing Performance (Gentlemen)

Fred Astaire - Slap That Bass
Varrick Frost - Summer Breeze
Stefano Mastronardi - The Speakeasy
Papa Django - Back & Beat
Swing Bot - Deuce Overdose

"Back & Beat" by Papa Django. Papa Django's early 2019 hit was a very pleasant surprise for fans. "Back & Beat" has a Daft Punk kinda quality to it and belongs on a bootleg remixer's to do list.

Best Electro Swing Performance (Duo/Group)

Caravan Palace - Miracle
Lyre Le Temps - Everything Moves
SpekrFreks - Move On
Swingrowers - Dreamland (Say Goodbye Bye Bye)
Tape Five - Party Like It's 1929

Beating out some heavy players, SpekrFreks', "Move On" is handed the prize in this category. If you swung in a club at all this year, this banger would have called you to the dance floor.

Best Electro Swing Album

Caravan Palace - Chronologic
Lyre Le Temps - Clockmaster
Postmodern Jukebox - Jazz Age Thirst Trap
SpekrFreks - Sockdollager
Tape Five - The Roaring 2020's

Congratulations, Lyre Le Temps. Clockmaster shook the ears like an earthquake. In the words of a circus ringmaster, "Amazing."

And the final category is...
Best Electro Swing Song

Caravan Palace/Charles X - About You
Emma Clair - Time To Fly
DJ Mibor/Wolfgang Lohr/Offbeat - Very Nice People
SpekrFreks - Move On
Tape Five - Party Like It's 1929

And the winner is, "Very Nice People." This is the kind of collaboration Electro Swing fans dream of. Paris catwalks and Chicago after hours clubs are where this gem belongs. And we all know where that leads. Everywhere.

Thanks for browsing and please return for my weekly iSwing Top 40 countdown. I break down what's happening in the world of modern swing music and occasionally blab about fun stuff too.
Until then, keep your head in the clouds and keep swinging for the stars.

The next entry at 25 is by Wolfgang Lohr and Alanna Lyes. "Upside Down (Pisk Remix)" is the second version of the song to chart. The original version bounced around the top 20 in the Summer of 2018.
Pisk holds two other positions on the chart, "Jumpin' Jive" with Cab Calloway at 39, and "Hummin' To Myself" climbs to 18.
The third entry is a song that's already a few years old but is getting new life being featured in the latest Birds Of Prey movie trailer. Lucy Woodward arrives at 21 with a song made famous by Bjork, "It's Oh So Quiet."
Top Swinging Entry belongs to Wolfgang Lohr and Loredana Grimaudo. They ring in the New Year with a banger that'll keep your gramiphone's cranker hot. Their "Twenties" debuts at number 9.

Welcome back Electro Swing fans. I'm JC JSum.
In this second week of The 20's, six songs join us. Kenichi Chiba starts us off at number 40, with "I Can Do Nothing Without You."
"Melancolia," by Caravan Palace slips in at 38. And "Hello My Baby," by Robin Koninsky comes in at 36.
The latest banger from The SwingHoppers, "Party Like It's 1920," with a helping hand from Wolfgang Lohr, arrives at number 34. "Party Like It's 1920" has the makings of being a giant hit this year. The song's message is a charming invitation into a culture that requires one to dress to the nines, dance hard and live it up old-school. The SwingHoppers also move up to 22 with, "S Gon Give It To Ya."
Glenn Gatsby's, "Whats The Reason (Club Mix)" comes in at 32. And Glenn also hits a doublehitter as his ,"I Wonder Where," moves to number 20.
Top swinging entry belongs to Alex Pangman with , "If I Don't Mean It" at number 27.
Big swinging shout out goes to Postmodern Jukebox. If you're in the know, you well know that Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) is a powerhouse when it comes to recycling and reinventing old and modern music and making it sound like old and modern music. The latest from PMJ, Throwback Clapback, features fun vintage takes on Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Billy Idol, Lizzo, Blu Cantrell, U2 and Elton John songs.

Postmodern Jukebox also just announced a new 2020 North American Spring Tour, beginning February 7, so be sure to check it out. It's a great live show with plenty of surprise guests. A sure thing to get you in a roaring twenties mood.

The Lizzo remake of "Juice" by Postmodern Jukebox and Mario Jose moves up to number 18 this week.
After two months in the Top 10, Emma Clair drops out with former Number 1, "Time To Fly." It stops at 14. Her need to have another Top 10 will have to wait another week though, her latest, "Need To Swing" stops at number 12.
As for Top 10 action, Fabian Scheuerlein and Balduin fall to 10 with "Nah Neh Nah." It peaked at number 3 last month.
The only new entry in the Top 10 this week is from Tape Five and Mica Dulce. "Once Upon A Summernight," moves from 15 to 9. It's the third Top 10 from the album The Roaring 2020's. "I Shot The Sheriff," peaked at number 8 in November and "Party Like It's 1929," reached number 1 a couple of weeks ago.
Former number 1, "Harlem Nights," by Honky Crew and Lil Hardin Armstrong slips to number 8 from 3. And Matt Forbes slips a notch to number 7 with, "Mad About You. It's still gaining in points so it may well rebound upwards next week.
Super Electro Swing trio, Wolfgang Lohr, Varrick Frost and Alanna Lyes still continue to climb with "Sweet Dreams." The Eurythmics remake has been in the iSwing Top 40 for nearly three months now. It stops at number 6 this week.
The Brass Department, Marena Whitcher and Rootwords climb to 5 with, "Welcome To The Brass Department (Klischee Remix)" and Tuxedo Junction creeps to number 4 with, "Mr Business." Jojo Effect and Dennis LeGree stay in the top three with the soulful, "Swing It Up (Zouzoulectric Remix)."
Moving into runner-up position is Lyre Le Temps with, "Boogie Wonderland." It moves two spots up.
And holding on to the number 1 position for a third straight week is Tape Five with the massive hit, "Party Like It's 1929."
That's it for Top 40 shinanugans this week. Visit again soon to read my breakdown of 2019's best artists, songs and albums. And of course you'll want to see if Tape Five holds on to Number 1 for a 4th week.

Happy New Year and Happy New Decade. Welcome back to the blog. I'm JC JSum.
The new year and end of Holiday season force all the Christmas music out of the Top 40. Eleven songs arrive this week. Highlights include, Minimatic scoring a second Top 40 from the EP, Bric-A-Brac. "The Whistler," comes in at 37. The SwingHoppers land "S Gon Give It To Ya" as their first Top 40 at 32. And SoDown also makes a first Top 40 appearance with, "Baby Don't Let Me Down," at 29.
Top Swinging Entry belongs to Glenn Gatsby. His "I Wonder Where" returns after a week's disappearance to land at 19. Phos Toni's, "Baby Swing" is right behind at 20.
And before I get to the Top 10, a big swinging shout out goes to Canada's sweetheart of Swing, Alex Pangman. She recently released the Connee Boswell penned, "If I Don't Mean It." A cozy little number destined to inspire sips of sherry and snuggles by the fire. She also releases another Boswell banger later this month, "I'm All Dressed Up With A Broken Heart."

Wolfgang Lohr, Varrick Frost and Alanna Lyes crack the Top 10 in their tenth week with, "Sweet Dreams." It's the only new entry to the Top 10.
In this first weekend of the decade, the battle for number one was qite strong between five songs. Tuxedo Junction moves into the Top 5 with the very groovy, "Mr Business."
Slipping a spot to 4 but still gaining in points are Lyre Le Temps with, "Boogie Wonderland." Their, "Smile For A Minute" takes a huge nosedive out of the Top 10 to land way down at 36.
Former Number 1, "Harlem Nights," by Honky Crew and Lil Hardin Armstrong slips 2 to 3.
Jojo Effect and Dennis LeGree cut in line with, "Swing It Up (Zouzoulectric Remix)." It stops at number 2.
And welcoming us into the new year, and decade, are Tape Five. Their "Party Like It's 1929," rules for a second week. It's the perfect anthem to ring in a roaring new decade. The "(Extended Version)" of "1929" debuts down at number 34.

The Top 100 Electro Swing Songs Of 2019 (Part 1)

The Top 100 Electro Swing Songs Of 2019

Twenty-nineteen was a very interesting and newsworthy year. I was more than happy to escape the unbelievable news, fake stories and dark cringy Pop music blasted on repeat.
My escape, Electro Swing. It's a fun and clever genre that doesn't take itself serious. It's exploding with talent, the grooves get you swinging and it will most likely be around for the next decade. Electro Swing is a genre of music that people like to hate, yet it still has the magnetic power to pull haters on to dancefloors.
Hundreds of songs jitterbugged past my ears in 2019. Some were quite epic, and some clever, mindless fun. A few songs were a bit naughty but who doesn't like a little naughty when they're swinging?
Some songs may be older, or too jazzy for the list, but variety makes things interesting. If you're new to Electro Swing, this is a fantastic playlist for you to get your Roaring 20's party started.
